By simply using Google's free keyword tool, I'm going to show you how to generate results that show you scorching-hot keywords that get a lot of search volume. This will save you hours of struggling to find keywords breaking your threshold for volume, but ultimately failing because no one wants to buy anything when they search that keyword. Using this method will ensure that you never throw up a bum website ever again.

First, let's take a look at what these two statistics mean, and why are they are so important. Global Monthly Searches is, of course, the number of people on average who search for your keyword from around the globe. With the advent of instant-translation by browsers, foreign readers are simply a way to build more traffic. Approximate CPC is the amount of money it takes for a business to place an Ad on the search results page for that keyword per person that clicks their ad. The higher the number the better, as that means the term is valuable as a buying keyword (aka the type your site needs to be built around).

Ok so to access the tool, just type "keyword tool" into your search bar and click the first option. Next, login to your account so you can see more than 100 results. Next, click the box next to "Advanced Options and Filters." In the first two boxes select "United States" and English. In the Filter Keywords box select "Global Monthly Searches" > 3,000 and add another box for "Approximate CPC" > $0.50.

Next, collapse that menu by clicking the box next to Advanced Options and Filters again. Then, enter in either a couple of phrases related to your product, or the website for the product itself, and hit search. This will display a ton of data for you, but to make it the most accurate uncheck "Broad" under Match Types to the left, and mark "Exact" instead. This will reload your results. Then, hit Download->All and select CSV for Excel.

Open your new CSV file in whatever your preferred spreadsheet software is (likely Excel or the Open Office equivalent), and select all of the keywords from (by default) Column A. Copy these, and paste them in place of the keywords you previously used in the Google tool. This is going to greatly expand the words the tool searches for, while still keeping everything relevant to your initial keywords. Run the search again, and check out your results.

That's it, that's all you need. You now have every keyword related to your product or website that has 3,000 global searches a month and costs advertisers at least $0.50 a click to advertise on the results page for that keyword. Then, you can use a few different external keyword tools to gauge the competitiveness of these keywords and pick the one that best suits your ability and spending level.
